IN PHOTO | In the inaugural episode of "Panagtigum sa Barangay," a new initiative by the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Caraga, registered solo parents from Brgy. Holy Redeemer and neighboring barangays in Butuan City convened at the barangay's covered court for an open chair discussion on Republic Act 11861, also known as the "Expanded Solo Parents Welfare Act."
City Social Welfare and Development Department (CSWDD) focal person for Solo Parents, Daphne Tuazon, was the guest speaker for the first episode of Panagtigum, where she discussed Republic Act 11861.
"Through the Expanded Solo Parents Welfare Act, there are now 12 categories that qualify an individual as a solo parent," Tuazon explained.
She further stated, "Even if your partner is paralyzed or suffering from an illness, you can still avail of solo parent benefits because the law has been expanded."
Tuazon also mentioned that if a person's partner is a Person Deprived of Liberty (PDL), they can qualify for benefits, provided they obtain a certification from the city jail.
Among those eligible for the program are rape victims, legal guardians, adoptive parents, Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) domestic helpers, pregnant women without partners, abandoned partners, annulled individuals, legally separated individuals, and unmarried parents. (KKG, PIA Agusan del Sur)
