The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Caraga conducts today, Sept. 28, an Orientation of Contact Tracers for Butuan City shortlisted applicants in four separate venues. They will soon be deployed to help ramp up contact tracing efforts in the region in order to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

What initially started out as a casual thought shared among friends over coffee has now prospered into a task force that aims to alleviate the plight of fellow Butuanons who are greatly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.  The Task Force COVID Bougainvilla, founded by five Butuanons from Brgy. J. P. Rizal, has been helping out the marginalized across Butuan City, providing food augmentation and housing to residents whose livelihoods have been greatly compromised due to the pandemic.  According to one of its founders, Joey Abrenilla, they started out with distributing food packs to 200 families and individuals from their neighborhood during the onset of heightened community quarantine implementation.  To date, the task force has helped 4,500 beneficiaries in 25 barangays and provided housing and free remodeling to 16 beneficiaries. The Provincial Reduction Livelihood and Employment Cluster (PRLEC) Butuan City and Agusan del Norte in partnership with the Provincial Government of Agusan del Norte and Congressional District of Agusan del Norte and Rotary Club of Central Butuan launched today the Project  # PEACE  in Matabao, Buenavista, Agusan del Norte. Mayor Norbert Pagaspas acknowledged the importance of the project for it will help the province in attaining peace.

  During today's RTF-ELCAC Cluster Conference cum Integration and Convergence of Related Clusters held at Balanghai Hotel, Butuan City, Estella Vallespin, LGOO-II of DILG-Caraga presented the ongoing efforts of the Strategic Communications Cluster chaired by the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Caraga in the fight against insugency. She emphasized that PIA, as the lead agency has been very active in disseminating timely, accurate and relevant information to the public with the use of their known platforms. During the Inter-Agency Visitation of Indigenous Cultural Communities/IPs in Brgy. Salug, Esperanza, Agusan del Sur, MGen. Maurito Licudine, commander of 402nd Brigade, Philippine Army emphasized that the Retooled Community Support Program (RCSP) is enhanced and geared up to better provide the programs and projects that would directly address the needs of the different sectors in the localities. With the completion of the COVID-19 ward and equiping fully the molecular laboratory of the Butuan Medical Center (BMC), Mayor Ronnie Vicente Lagnada thanked the DOH and DOST Caraga and other partner stakeholders for the support in the realization of the project during today's inauguration of the laboratory. "We are aware of the increasing number of confirmed cases in our region, but this is just the start. We need the strict observance of the health protocols to prevent the spread of the virus. Marc Gil Calang, civil defense officer I from the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Caraga, said that they are providing the needed logistical support and personal protective equipment for the frontliners from various concerned government agencies who facilitate and manage the homecoming of the Caraganon locally stranded individuals (LSIs) under the Hatid Tulong Program. They also prepared food for the working personnel who are involved in this operation. According to DOTr-Caraga regional director Ma. Kristina Cassion, the DOTr enforcers will continue to assist the Locally Stranded Individuals and monitor their compliance with the imposed health protocols to prevent the spread of COVID-19. About 92 stranded OFWs from Manila are expected to arrive at 7:30 tonight at the Port of Nasipit, Agusan del Norte via M/V St. Francis Xavier of the 2Go shipping. The concerned LGUs have provided vehicles that will transport the repatriated OFWs back to their respective hometowns in Caraga region subject to the established health precautionary measures in their area. As of 4PM today, May 14, 2020, the Department of Health reports 258 new cases (PH11619-PH11876) of COVID-19. NCR with additional 188 new cases, Region 7 with an additional 16 new cases and 54 new cases from different Regions. The total number of cases in the country is now at 11,876. DOH also announces 86 new recoveries. This brings the total number of recoveries to 2,337. With the goal of bettering the response of the health authorities in the region amid the pandemic, the Department of Health Caraga is set to provide 9 ambulances to different rural health units (RHUs) and city health offices (CHOs) in the region. Agusan del Norte will be given 3 vehicle units, which will be given to Butuan Medical Center in Butuan City, Las Nieves, and the city health office of Cabadbaran City. Agusan del Sur will be receiving 2 units, which will be given to  the RHUs in San Luis and Trento. Surigao del Norte will be given 3 units, which will be given to the RHUs in Claver and Malinomo as well as its provincial hospital. The DA Caraga with the participation of traders and farmers in Butuan City through the Kadiwa on Wheels visits barangay Pangabugan this morning and barangay Maon in the afternoon.
