SIARGAO AIRPORT BEGINS EXPANSION AND IMPROVEMENT OF PASSENGER TERMINAL BUILDING IN DEL CARMEN, SURIGAO DEL NORTE

IN PHOTOS | The Department of Transportation (DOTr), in partnership with the Department of Tourism (DOT), launched the expansion and improvement of the Siargao Airport Passenger Terminal Building (PTB) on August 8, 2025.

This significant infrastructure project, a key component of the administration's National Tourism Development Plan (NTDP) 2023-2028, is a testament to the government’s commitment to enhancing the travel experience and boosting tourism in the Philippines’ premier surfing destination.

The project is part of a bundled Public-Private Partnership (PPP) deal for the modernization of regional airports. Once completed, the new Siargao Airport PTB will showcase a modernized look with Filipino-inspired design elements, offering a more spacious and comfortable gateway for visitors. The terminal's floor area is set to more than double, increasing from 716 to 1,531 square meters. This expansion will also raise the pre-departure seating capacity from 200 to at least 750 passengers at any given time, and will add six new check-in counters for a total of nine.

This transformative project is expected to be completed within eight months and will significantly ease congestion at the airport, which currently handles a high volume of local and international tourists. The expanded and modernized terminal will not only improve the comfort and convenience of travelers but also support the island’s growing tourism and trade, creating more jobs and business opportunities for the local community.
