IN PHOTOS | During the first episode of the "Panagtigum sa Barangay," a new platform of the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Caraga on Jan. 30, the registered solo parents from Brgy. Holy Redeemer and nearby barangays of Butuan City gathered for the open chair discussion on Republic Act 11861 otherwise known as the "Expanded Solo Parents Welfare Act," at the covered court of Brgy. Holy Redeemer.
Daphne Tuazon, focal person for Solo Parents from the City Social Welfare and Development Department (CSWDD), emphasized that the local government headed by Mayor Ronnie Vicente Lagnada, and CSWDD chief Golda Pocon, have a strong directive to provide assistance and services to the solo parents, and intensify advocacy campaign on the new law for the sector.
She also recalled the previous law - RA 8972, which seeks to promote the welfare of solo parents and their children. The act declares the benefits for solo -parent households in the Philippines, which includes social development. (JPG, PIA Caraga)
