Nationwide Destruction of Illicit Cigarettes

IN PHOTOS | The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Revenue Region No. 17's seized illicit cigarettes from various illegitimate businesses are shown to the public during the conduct of the nationwide destruction of illicit cigarettes on Feb. 24, held at Richmond Plywood Corporation in Purok 1 Mahogany Poblacion (Brgy. 21), Butuan City.

Per BIR's data, a total of 337,644 packs of cigarettes or 97 percent and worth more than P219 million were incinerated at the broilers to ensure that these will no longer be used. The remaining 3 percent of the seized illicit cigarettes now serves as evidence while appropriate cases against smugglers are filed in court.  (JPG, PIA Caraga)
