2024 Indigenous People’s Month

vibrant celebration of cultural heritage, the city government of Surigao,
through the City Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office, celebrated the National
Indigenous People’s Thanksgiving Day on October 30, 2024, as part of the 2024
Indigenous People’s Month and the 27th anniversary of the Indigenous People’s
Rights Act (IPRA).
Under the theme, “Valuing, Nurturing, and Honoring Indigenous Peoples and Indigenous Knowledge,” the two-day event focused on raising awareness, respect, and support for the indigenous communities of Badjao and Mamanwa tribes. It featured unique activities aimed at sharing Indigenous knowledge and traditions with the public, showcasing a product booth and the Recycled Boat Making activity, highlighting the indigenous communities’ skills, artistry, and aspirations.
The city of Surigao remained committed to empowering its indigenous communities, fostering a society where diversity is respected and cultural heritage is preserved. (SDR, PIA-Surigao del Norte)
