PSA reports 5.2% economic growth in Surigao Sur in 2025

IN PHOTO | Surigao del Sur recorded 5.2 percent economic growth in 2025, with the health, manufacturing, and education sectors posting the fastest growth, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).

PSA Surigao del Sur Chief Statistical Specialist Ruel Dres presented the figures during the Provincial Product Accounts (PPA) Data Dissemination Forum on October 8, 2026 at the Goldbar Hotel and Restaurant Pavilion in Tandag City.

Dres reported that the province’s gross domestic product (GDP) reached ₱73.65 billion in 2025, although growth slowed from 6.5 percent in 2024.

Human health and social work activities posted the highest growth at 11.9 percent, followed by manufacturing at 9.7 percent and education at 8.8 percent. However, agriculture, forestry, and fishing contracted by 3.9 percent, highlighting the need to examine challenges affecting the sector and its contribution to the provincial economy.

The province’s per capita GDP reached ₱109,472 in 2025, an increase of 4.2 percent from the previous year.

The PSA’s presentation provides local officials, planners, and development partners with economic data that can guide development priorities, identify sectors needing support, and inform programs aimed at improving livelihoods and community welfare.

The dissemination of these statistics also helps the public better understand the province’s economic performance and supports evidence-based planning for inclusive local development. (NGPB, PIA Surigao del Sur)
