DOST-PHIVOLCS earthquake monitoring system: A milestone for safety, science, and resilience in Claver, Surigao Norte

Patan, celebrates the inauguration of the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology's (DOST–PHIVOLCS) earthquake monitoring system in Claver, Surigao del Norte, serving as the 128th seismic station. 

This milestone achievement is made possible through the strong partnership between the DOST–PHIVOLCS, local leaders, and the community.

The event is attended by Dr. Winchelle Ian Sevilla, chief of the Seismology Division of DOST–PHIVOLCS, together with the seismic and tsunami network development team led by Engr. Arnaldo A. Melosantos, also the head and supervising science research specialist of the information, education, and communication (IEC) team. 

Also present are DOST Surigao del Norte personnel, Rev. Fr. Renato B. Mantilla of DCS Parish as the officiating priest, barangay officials led by Punong Barangay Tresa P. Placencia, the local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office headed by Engr. Jonathan R. Go, Jr., as well as representatives from the PNP Maritime Group and the Bureau of Fire Protection.

This inauguration symbolizes unity and collaboration in building a more resilient and disaster-prepared community.

With this seismic station now in place, Claver moves forward with greater confidence in its capacity to help monitor seismic activities, respond effectively, and strengthen resilience against natural hazards. (SDR, PIA Surigao del Norte)
