Agriculture Sec leads groundbreaking of FMR in Surigao City

IN PHOTO | Department of Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. breaks ground the new farm-to-market road (FMR) in Barangay Anomar, Surigao City on April 15, 2026, marking a significant milestone for the local agricultural sector under the Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP) Scale-Up.

The ceremony was attended by Surigao City Mayor Paul Dumlao and Surigao del Norte Governor Robert Lyndon Barbers, signaling a unified front between national and local government units to bolster rural infrastructure.

The FMR is designed to connect remote farming communities in Barangay Anomar directly to the city’s main economic hubs. It aims to reduce transportation costs for farmers, minimize post-harvest losses, and ensure faster delivery of local produce to the market.

This sub-project is part of the DA’s World Bank-assisted PRDP which focuses on modernizing the value chain for Filipino farmers. (SDR, PIA Surigao del Norte)
